In the days before India imported things as freely as it does now, I used to make handbags and shopping bags from cotton canvas or flannel, and then add motifs to them. On a flannel bag I appliqued a cute hand-painted patch of a Snoopy. On a canvas bag, I painted red strawberries. I miss sewing! Now your post has inspired me to make a brown canvas tote with a kolam design... :) How lovely! Nice way to inaugurate your new machine, Indira!
