Hi Indira,

Lovely picturs. The flowers are very pretty and I can almost feel their smell. I got this link from a garden friend Asha. Wanted to know the name of this flower in Malayam and got to know that. I too am trying to grow this now. Hopefully will get such lovely flowers like yours. Sumathy

Catching up with Mahanandi after too long a break! Your picture and the gift to your chinamma reminded me of this old and beautiful love song called Two Gardenias:

Dear Indira,
Gardenias look breathtaking. I have a few of these in my garden but they flower occasionally, and barely 1 or 2 flower per plant. Can you tell me where you have planted them (shade, sunny location) how much water you give and which fertilizer you use? Thanks!

They are called Sugandha Raj in Kerala.
My grand uncle used to have those in his yard. In the swing which they had inside the house the aunt used to sit and string them for puja and us children to wreathe on our braids.
Your picture is so evocative of those carefree and idyllic times.

Beautiful flowers... Can we use these for pooja?

<i>They make beautiful pooja pushpams, Kay. Good for garlands too with heady scent like our malle poola danda.
